เนื่องมาจากสถานการณ์โควิด-19 ประชาชนต่างให้ความร่วมมือกับมาตรการอยู่บ้าน หยุดเชื้อเพื่อชาติ ส่งผลให้ขยะจากบรรจุภัณฑ์พลาสติกจากการสั่งอาหารมีปริมาณเพิ่มมากขึ้น โดยกรมควบคุมมลพิษ พบว่า ขยะพลาสติกจากบรรจุอาหาร เพิ่มขึ้นเฉลี่ย 15% (จากปริมาณปกติ 5,500 ตันต่อวัน เป็น 6,300 ตันต่อวัน) โดยเฉพาะในเดือนเมษายนที่ผ่านมา มีปริมาณขยะพลาสติกเฉพาะในกรุงเทพมหานคร เพิ่มจากปีที่แล้วถึง 62% การหันมาดูแลเรื่องการจัดการขยะพลาสติกใช้ครั้งเดียวจึงเป็นเรื่องที่ต้องดำเนินการอย่างทันที

Tops, FamilyMart, and Matsumoto Kiyoshi invite Thais to care for the planet on the occasion of
the World Environment Day, introducing the “BAG FOR LIFE” campaign
which allows customers to change their shopping bags for free
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Thai people stayed home to stop the spread of the virus, resulting in the amount of plastic waste increasing due to online deliveries and in-home consumption. The department of pollution control stated that the amount of plastic waste from food packaging has increased by 15%(from 5,500 tons per day to 6,300 tons per day). In the month of April alone, the amount of waste in Bangkok increased from the previous year by 62%. Tackling single use plastic waste is something that needs immediate action.
Central Food Retail, which operates Tops, FamilyMart and Matsumoto Kiyoshi, a part of Central Retail , announces that it will move forward in full force to raise awareness about plastic waste among Thais on the occasion of the World Environment Day (June 5). Thai people are invited to take part in solving our environmental issues through the “Bag for Life” campaign, which offers recycle plastic bags made from 80% recycled plastic, sold at 4 baht each. Customers can bring these bags to exchange for a new one free of charge by presenting the receipt at the cashier counter from June 5 – November 30, 2020 at Tops Market, Tops Superstore, Tops Daily, Central Food Hall, FamilyMart and Matsumoto Kiyoshi. Old “Bag for Life” bags will be properly recycled and turned into new plastic bags in a circular manner through the Won Project, which aims to creatively tackle plastic waste issues based on the concept of circular economy. This health insurer that natural resources are maximized.
Eco-loving shoppers can also get a 40 baht discount when spending 40 baht per receipt and using their own shopping bag during June 1 – July 31, 2020 only at Tops Market, Tops Superstore, and Central Food Hall in Central Plaza shopping malls.
