วันที่ 25 กรกฎาคม พิธา ลิ้มเจริญรัตน์ หัวหน้าพรรคก้าวไกล แถลงการณ์กรณีการประหารชีวิตนักเคลื่อนไหวเรียกร้องประชาธิปไตยในพม่า หลังจากที่มีข่าวว่า รัฐบาลทหารพม่าทำการประหารชีวิต 4 นักเคลื่อนไหวต่อต้านรัฐบาลทหารพม่า โดยเฉพาะ 2 ใน 4 ที่เป็นนักเคลื่อนไหวตั้งแต่เหตุการณ์ 8888 และอดีตสมาชิกสภาพรรครัฐบาลพลเรือนก่อนถูกรัฐประหารว่า
ในฐานะหัวหน้าพรรคก้าวไกล ผมรู้สึกตกใจและเศร้าเสียใจอย่างยิ่งต่อการกระทำอันโหดร้ายของศาลทหารของเผด็จการทหารเมียนมาในการประหารชีวิตผู้นำ NLD และนักเคลื่อนไหวเรียกร้องประชาธิปไตย เช่น พโย เซยา จ่อ และ ก่อ หมิ่น ยู ผมขอร่วมกับประชาคมโลกในการประณามการกระทำนี้อย่างรุนแรงที่สุด

สิทธิที่จะได้รับการพิจารณาคดีอย่างเปิดเผยและเป็นธรรมโดยตุลาการที่จัดตั้งขึ้นตามกฎหมายอันชอบธรรม เป็นอิสระ และเป็นกลาง เป็นหนึ่งในหลักการอันล่วงละเมิดมิได้ที่บัญญัติไว้ในกติการะหว่างประเทศว่าด้วยสิทธิพลเมืองและสิทธิทางการเมือง หรือ ICCPR การทำลายสิทธิดังกล่าวถือเป็นการดูหมิ่นเหยียดหยามจิตสำนึกร่วมที่ดีของประชาคมโลก

เผด็จการทหารเมียนมาล้มเหลวครั้งแล้วครั้งเล่าในการปฏิบัติตามฉันทามติ 5 ข้อของอาเซียน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการยุติความรุนแรงต่อพลเรือนโดยทันที ดังนั้นผมขอสนับสนุนให้อาเซียนทำงานร่วมกับทุกฝ่ายเพื่อฟื้นฟูประชาธิปไตยที่สมบูรณ์ให้กับเมียนมา พรรคก้าวไกลขอเรียกร้องให้รัฐบาลไทยส่งสัญญาณที่เข้มแข็งและชัดเจนต่อเผด็จการทหารเมียนมาว่า การเข่นฆ่าผู้คนอย่างไร้เหตุผลเป็นสิ่งที่ยอมรับไม่ได้ และเรียกร้องให้คืนอำนาจกลับคืนสู่ประชาชนโดยเร็วผ่านการเลือกตั้งที่บริสุทธิ์ยุติธรรม เนื่องจากเมียนมาที่เป็นประชาธิปไตยและมั่งคั่ง เป็นประโยชน์ไม่เพียงต่อประเทศไทยแต่ต่อประชาคมโลกในภาพรวมด้วย

ผมขอเรียกร้องไปยังสหประชาชาติ ทั้งต่อผู้แทนพิเศษของเลขาธิการสหประชาชาติในประเด็นเมียนมา และคณะกรรมการกลไกสอบสวนอิสระเรื่องเมียนมา (IIMM) ให้รวบรวมข้อเท็จจริงเกี่ยวกับการละเมิดกฎหมายระหว่างประเทศอย่างอุกอาจโดยเฉพาะเกี่ยวกับความผิดฐานฆ่าล้างเผ่าพันธุ์และอาชญากรรมต่อมนุษยชาติ เพื่อให้ผู้ที่รับผิดชอบต่อการกระทำดังกล่าวเข้าสู่กระบวนการยุติธรรมโดยเร็ว

พรรคก้าวไกลขอยืนเคียงข้างพี่น้องประชาชนชาวเมียนมาอีกครั้งในช่วงเวลาที่ยากลำบากนี้ พวกเราได้ทำทุกอย่างภายใต้อำนาจของเราเพื่อกดดันให้ทางการไทยช่วยคลี่คลายความลำบากยากเข็ญของชาวเมียนมา รวมถึงฟื้นฟูการปกครองแบบประชาธิปไตยในเมียนมาโดยเร็วที่สุด

Statement on the execution of democratic activists in Myanmar
As the leader of the Move Forward Party, I am shocked and saddened by the senseless execution of NLD leaders and democracy activists — including most recently Phyo Zeya Thaw and Kyaw Min Yu — by the military tribunal of the Myanmar junta. I join the international community in condemning such heinous acts in the strongest possible terms.

The right to a fair and public hearing by a competent, independent and impartial tribunal is one of the most sacrosanct principles enshrined in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The derogation of such rights constitutes an affront to the collective conscience of the international community.

The Myanmar junta has time and again failed to comply with ASEAN’s 5-point plan, especially the immediate cessation of violence including against civilians. As such, I encourage ASEAN to work with all parties to bring about the restoration of full-fledged democracy in Myanmar. The Move Forward Party also urges the Thai government to send a strong and emphatic signal to the Myanmar junta that such senseless killings are entirely unacceptable as well as to promptly return power to the people through a free and fair election as a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Myanmar is in the best interest of not only Thailand but the global community as a whole.

I also call on the United Nations both the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Myanmar and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar to document egregious violation of international laws including possible crime of genocide and crime against humanity in order that the fullest extent of justice may be brought to bear upon those responsible.

The Move Forward Party once again expresses absolute solidarity with the people of Myanmar during these trying times. Rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to pressure the Thai government to alleviate the plight of the Myanmar people, including the restoration of democratic governance in Myanmar at the earliest opportunity.
